New Year, New You! – The Key To Healthier Living With Strongvox
Walk On The Wild Side in 2022
Beat the January blues and join Strongvox as we embark on our new initiative for 2022: to get outdoors and discover the treasures and beauty of our local areas on foot. From the iconic landmarks of Clifton Suspension Bridge and Glastonbury Tor, to lesser-known scenic jewels, we’ll take you on a path of adventure! Walking more (and driving less) is not only great for the environment and the wallet; it’s also great for our heart and soul!
Why walking?
It’s easy to overlook walking as a means of improving our general health and keeping fit. We might be considering joining a gym, starting running, or taking up cycling or a team sport… but even making small lifestyle changes can have a positive impact on our health and wellbeing.
Ramping up the amount of walking we do on a regular basis is simple! It’s free and is one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier. Walking briskly helps to build stamina, will burn excess calories and make the heart healthier. Even a brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards our recommended 150 minutes of exercise a week.
Six Benefits Of Walking
- Helps to maintain a healthy weight
- Increases cardiovascular fitness and energy level
- Improves mood, confidence and self-esteem
- Keeps muscles and bones healthy
- Makes sleeping at night easier
- Reduces the risk of having high blood pressure, a stroke and type 2 diabetes
Strongvox – The Key To Healthier Living
In 2022, as part of the Strongvox Key To Healthier Living, we will feature some lovely walks suitable for all abilities, which are all within striking distance of our Strongvox developments across the South West.
With such beautiful countryside right on our doorsteps, this is the perfect opportunity to get outside with the family, embrace the elements and get some fresh air. We’ll feature a tempting assortment of easy strolls, mixed with family-friendly walks, and then spice things up with a handful of longer, more challenging routes, all with scenery to take your breath away!
Sprinkled across the coming months, this new series of blogs will focus on various walks around the following areas:
- Around Bristol Strongvox Laurel Hill
- Stoke Fleming and the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Strongvox Vista
- Nether Stowey and the Quantock Hills Strongvox Cricketer Farm
- Wedmore and the Mendip Hills AONB Strongvox Wedmore Grange
- Topsham and the East Devon AONB Strongvox Carrick Mill
- Stoke-sub-Hamdon and the Dorset AONB Strongvox Phelips Court
Maps and Apps To Get You Walking
Thankfully, with the assistance of GPS technology, it’s easier than ever before to head off the beaten track into the countryside without getting lost! Today, we largely take satellite navigation for granted, but for those who are interested, most satnav is based on GPS– Global Positioning System – a network of 31 satellites (originally designed by the U.S. military) that orbit the earth and transmit radio signals, which pinpoint your location to within accuracy of seven metres. Wow!
There are a growing number of free GPS-based apps enabling you to record or plan your own walking routes and even to share them. The British Heart Foundation has a useful overview of 11 free walking apps for iPhone or Android-based smartphone, and downloading a relevant app could help you get the most from your outings, especially if you are planning on walking regularly for fitness and want to track your progress.
With the help of the Komoot app and its knowledgeable community of outdoor enthusiasts, we’ll be able to share links directly to our selected walks so you can then download them and head out for your own walk on the wild side!
